第一集：Mr. Brown老师来应聘做英语老师，却遭到了教导主任的不信任。于是，为了获得这份工作，他便硬着头皮上了一节课。只是，他上课的情况如何呢？

syllabus  n.原义指（课程）教学大纲，在这里指小册子。

2、Just go down the corridor, turn left at the bottom.穿过走廊，左转到尽头。

这里大家可以记一下这个表达，以后有外国人问路了，就不怕不知道怎么回答了。

3.BA.oxon牛津大学文学士

BA表文学士，oxon表牛津大学简称

4.I assure you my credentialsare imeccable.我敢向你保证，我的学位证书是真的。

credential n.证书，它的同义词有certificate

impeccable adj.完美的，无缺点的；无可指摘的。在这里指的是真实的。

5.I afraid he only lasted a month, the he departed.他教了一个月之后，就离开了。

depart有多种意思。

(1)离开（有指动身去旅行），启程，一起，一路

Dorothy departed for Germany last week

(2）辞世，离开人世（正式）

（3）违反（常规之意）In this sppech,the president departed from

（4）离开（某组织）；离职 I departed my work because of my mom.

dement v.意思是使发狂。

7.But one day he just snap.但有一天，他突然奔溃。

snap有多重含义，一些常用的意思相信大家都知道，那我简单介绍其特殊的用法。

（1）厉声说（话），怒气冲冲地说（话）

"What do you want" Mink snapped.

(2)(精神)突然奔溃，突然失去自制力

The stress began to get to her, and one mornig she just snapped.

（3）给。。。。。拍照，拍摄（照片）（非）

David snapped a picture of me and Sonia.

(4)结束，停止（一系列事件，尤用于报纸上）（美）

The Rocket snapped seven-game losing streak by beating Portland.

(5)adj.表仓促的，突然的 snap election 

8.Took all his clothes off and stood there stark naked.脱掉了他所有的 衣服然后一丝不挂的站在那儿。

stark naked一丝不挂的，赤裸裸的

stark 的几种表达：（1）（外表）简陋的；无修饰的；荒凉的

The stark beauty of New Mexico.

(2)明摆着的；严酷的

We're faced wiith stark choice.

9.Still you mustn't worry on my account.你可不比为我担心。

on one's account由于。。。。。缘故，你不必因为我的缘故而担心，就是你可不比为我担心。

有关account的几种表达：（1）of  no/little account不重要，没关系

（2）put/turn sb. to account追究某人的责任（正式）

（3）on that、this  account由于那个/这个缘故

(4)by sb.'s account据某人自己说

10.I haven't the faintest idea what you're saying.我完全不知道你在说什么。

想表达你完全不知道别人在说什么的时候，你可以这么说I'm not have the faintest idea what you're saying.

跟faint有关的还有一个，是I nearly/almost fainted我差点昏过去（口语，表惊讶）

这是一种换工互惠生，即寄宿在当地居民家里，以替当地居民打工作为房租的一种方式。

gist n.表主旨，要点the gist of。。。。。的要点，主旨

14.Sex won't be rearing its ugly little head.性永远不会出现问题的。

rear its ugly head意思是（问题或困境）冒头，出现之意。

除了这个之外，rear还有几个特殊意思：

（1）养育，抚养（孩子）；饲养（物）

It's a good place to rear the children.

(2)（adj.尤指车辆）后面的；后部的

（3）屁股；臀部

15.How's the femme fatale?那个万人迷怎么样了？

femme fatale是贬义词，指妖冶的女子，荡妇等之类的人。

16.You look a trifle under the weather?你看起来脸色有点不太好。

under the weather的意思是身体不大舒服的意思（非正式），以后身体不舒服除了I'm ill 以外还可以这么表达哦。除了这个表达外，weahter还有其他词语：

(1)in all weahter无论天气好坏There're homless people sleeping on the street in all weathers.

(2)keep a weather eye on sth.密切注视，时刻警惕（不寻常或者不安的事）

b.a trifle表有点，稍微之意，有些正式。除了这个意思外，trifle表动词时，意思是轻视，小看，随便对待的意思。句型是trifle with sb./sth.

He isn't a man to be trifled with.
